2016 Bear Tooth Skinny Raven Shamrock Shuffle

I do not particularly like 5K races because for me, they are just a sprint from start to finish. I am not a sprinter by no means. I prefer the longer races where I have time to settle into my pace and just run.

But, I signed up for the Skinny Raven’s Shamrock Shuffle 5K mainly to get back into the running and racing scene. And I had a blast!

It is a pretty festive race and I dressed for the occasion somewhat. I didn’t go all out but many of the runners were dressed in some pretty cool St. Paddy’s Day costumes. Maybe next year, I will get a little more festive.

I felt good the whole entire way. I knew I had not been training at the pace that I was running, but I felt so good that I just went with it. There was a long gradual incline near the end of the race, and I was definitely breathing hard at the top of that hill, but I knew the finish was just around the corner. I was really surprised how strong I felt otherwise. I have only been back to running since January. And I have been taking it nice and easy due to my achilles injury.

My time was definitely not a PR. I have ran faster 5Ks but that was years ago. So, I am pretty proud of how I did on Saturday!

My hubby was there to support me and my daughter, along with her family, also did the run. They walked it but I am sure she will be running it with me next year.

My grandson, crossing with my daughter, said that he “wasn’t even tired and he didn’t even work up a sweat”. Maybe he will be running it with us also next year!

And my grandaughter, along with her Dad was not too far behind.

And as mentioned in my last post, I wore the Asics GT-2000 4 running shoe without any problems! Nothing hurt during the run. My heel was a little sore later in the day but all went well during the race. Still testing these shoes, but so far I am pretty happy with them.

This was such a fun event. Looking forward to this one again!
