Wow, congrats to Des Linden on winning the Boston Marathon in such grueling conditions. There hasn’t been an American female winner of the Boston Marathon since 1985!! She looked so strong during those last miles. She was so exciting to watch, and I am so glad I didn’t miss it. I love this photo by Charles Krupa. It was actually the first time in those last few miles that I even saw her expression change! So focused.
Watching the Boston Marathon inspires me even more to want to try and qualify for this race. I had plans of running the Humpy’s Marathon this fall hoping to do just that. But, a running injury has pretty much made this impossible for the 2019 race. I should have started marathon training this past Sunday, but on Monday I was told no running for 4-6 weeks. Not even pool running. There isn’t enough time for healing, building a base, and getting 18 weeks of marathon training in before Sept when registration for the Boston Marathon begins.
Receiving this news was a little frustrating to say the least. Especially since I have been injured since the beginning of March. I was misdiagnosed, it seems, and when I was told that my current diagnosis was worse than the Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) that I was initially diagnosed with, I almost fell apart. I managed though, to keep it together. The frustrating part is that initially I was told that I could run slow, easy miles, and now I am being told that this injury has to heal before any running can happen. I could have been through most of the healing process by now. Oh well…..
Apparently, I have Hamstring Tendonitis. When I consulted Dr. Google, my symptoms definitely meets the description (doesn’t everybody confirm via google?). So, I will be going to physical therapy for now. And the therapist prefers that I swim for cardiovascular fitness, but since I don’t swim, I am allowed to bike without resistance (easy) for 20 minutes at a time as long as there isn’t any pain or tightness. They have also given me some exercises to do to help strengthen and open the hips as well as stretching the calf muscles.
So for now, instead of writing about my training, I will be writing about my recovery and looking forward to running again. In the meantime, I have found other ways to brighten my days.
Reading about the history of the Boston Marathon and the marathon stories keeps me inspired!
And….
Spending time with these guys is the highlight of my life. Love them!
I have a physical therapy appointment in two days…..hope its good news 🙂
