I had a great long run of 9 miles on Saturday. I ran my regular route which is pretty hilly but I was pressed for time. I typically go into Anchorage and run a flatter course for the long run. Even with the hills, I still ran about a 9:40 pace (1:27:07). My training program had me doing these “ins and outs” during the last mile of my run. These mini fartleks help with leg turnover, according to my NYRR virtual trainer, and consists of increasing your pace for 20 secs then reverting back to your regular pace for 40 secs. Nice little change-up 🙂
As I mentioned, I was pressed for time. Apparently my daughter had a plan for Mother’s Day and I needed to be ready by 1pm. I wasn’t sure what I was suppose to be ready for though. But, I soon found out. She showed up not too long after my run to whisk me away to Girdwood, Ak for a Mother and Daughter week-end get away. And it was sooooo fabulous. And good for my running – rest, relaxation and plenty of time in the hot tub. Really great food too. We had dinner at the Double Musky and breakfast at Jack Sprats.
It was over so fast it seemed, and I was back to work on Monday before I knew it. What a whirlwind week-end. I still got in a scheduled run of 5 miles after work. Took it easy….it was good.
I was really planning on getting back on track with my diet, but…yes there is always a but..ha ha…It’s Nurses Week and our Docs brought in goodies to say thanks!
Tuesday included a track workout that was much needed after bingeing on all the goodies. I just love these work-outs. For me they are hard, but like I said in my last post, just hard enough. This one was a 1 mile warm-up, then 1 mile @ marathon pace followed by 1 mile a little faster than marathon pace and ending with another mile @ marathon pace. I did passive recovery between them and 1 mile cool down. I felt really good at the end of this work-out. Energetic!
Wednesday was a day off. I am really trying to get back into the gym to supplement my running but just can’t seem to find the time! Running takes up so much of it. I don’t know what my excuse was for not going to the gym on my day off from running other than I had to work. Yeah, no excuse 🙂
Thursday was a 4 mile regular run that included a few strides towards the end. Another beautiful day along the Tony Knowles Coastal trail. It’s warming up finally. I do hope this awesome weather continues!
Today is an AYF (as you feel) day and I have chosen to take an extra rest day. I am still healing from an injury and I do not want to over do it. Tomorrow (Sat) I will decrease my long run to 8 miles. I always look forward to the long run, I love them!! We will see how it goes!
My husband wants to go Hooligan fishing tomorrow too….hmmmm…??
Happy Running!!
