I love track work-outs! And finally, I started speed workouts with this week’s marathon training schedule. The Virtual Trainer begins these workouts fairly light and then builds on them as the weeks go on. This week was interval training that started with a 1.5 mile warm-up at about a 9:30 pace followed by 800s X 6. They were fairly easy and went pretty well. My problem is that I am not a good judge of my own pace. My target time for these 800s was suppose to be 4:15. When I went faster than that, I would work on slowing them down to the targeted pace, but I wasn’t always successful at keeping them there. I am sure with practice I will get a better feel for my pace.
- 4:37 (8:01)
- 3:54 (7:20)
- 3:29 (7:21)
- 3:56 (8:05)
- 3:52 (7:56)
- 3:50 (7:51)
After each 800, I did a passive (walking) recovery of about 45-60 secs. And after the workout, I did a cool down of 1.5 miles so the entire workout was about 6 miles. I felt great during the entire time. Loved it!
The interval workout was on Wednesday so backing up a couple of days:
- Monday was 3 miles AYF. I ran the hills near my home very slow and easy.
- Tuesday was an off day.
- Wednesday (as stated above)
- Thursday Flex day so I took it off. I have been running mostly just 4 days a week. I am trying to get in some strength training on these flex days, but that hasn’t worked out very well. I need to schedule that just like I do my runs and just make it happen!
- Friday Regular Run 4 miles in 34:13 (8:32) My target was 36-37 minutes, but I felt great and it was a fairly flat course so I continued on this pace. I try not to do that too often because I don’t want to end up injured.
- Saturday Long Run 13 miles Target 2:01-2:04 Actual time was 1:59:44 (9:13) This was a great run and seemed fairly easy which really surprised me!
The reason I was so surprised is because on Friday night I met my daughter at yet another beauty shop while she was getting her SECOND hair updo trial for her wedding, which didn’t go so well. Understandably, she was very upset. Of course, I wanted to cheer her up, so we decided to go to the Spenard Road House for something to eat and a cocktail was definitely needed!
I would like to say that I stopped at one and drank that nice tall glass of water instead (which is what I should have been drinking) but that wasn’t the case. We had a great time, but I thought I am going to be in big trouble on tomorrow’s long run.
When I got up the next day, I decided to just go out nice and slow and do my best. I actually felt great the whole entire way!!
Oh and to complete the week, I had Sunday off. Week 7 coming up! Hope it goes just as good as this week’s training!
Total miles for this week was 26.
My baby will be getting married this month and I hope the rest of the planning as well as the days leading up to the “big day” are fun filled and not so stressful!! And if that means we have to have a couple more speakeasys, so be it 🙂 Love her!!
