I have such an awesome family who are supporting me 100% in this marathon venture. Most of my family knows that I have been trying to get into NYC Marathon for quite some time and I am less than 5 months away from realizing this dream.
For Mother’s Day, my daughter made the above Runner’s Survival Kit. It was divided into three sections: Training Section, For The Big Day, and Recovery Period which included everything from chap stick to ice wraps. One of my most favorite items from the kit was the heart that said “Find Your Happy Pace”! I am not sure the bottle of wine will make it to the celebration afterwards, but maybe we can have an early celebration after the Skinny Raven Half in August.
Shortly after the acceptance into the NYC Marathon, I received this card from my sister.
It was full of love and encouragement. Every time we talk (I’m in Alaska, she is in Va), she ask about my training. She knows I have been struggling with an injury and is so supportive and encouraging.
My Mother, who is in NC, is also very encouraging. I talk to her most every day and she always ask about my daily run and how my foot is holding up. She is a little more worried though because I posted a picture on Facebook that gave her some concern:
This little guy was right along my running route, but fortunately for me, I wasn’t running that route at the time my husband took this picture.
And speaking of my husband, Scott is backing me 100% as well. On the morning of the drawing, knowing that I have this injury and haven’t been able to run he said “it would really suck if you got accepted this time”. I didn’t say anything but I was thinking I probably wouldn’t get in, but if I do, I will do whatever it takes to run NYC!
But when I was accepted, he was very happy for me and excited about going to NYC. He gets to hear all about my running shoe issues (read here and here) and the daily struggles with this running injury. For the longer runs, I drive 45 minutes into town to just run a flat trail being that I am not suppose to be running hills. This is very time consuming and takes away from other things that we could be doing. But, he understands and is very supportive.
Also, my brother-in-law, Rob and his wife Krista, have expressed interest in meeting us in NY for the marathon. They live in the Seattle area. They are so much fun to hang out with and that would be so awesome if they could come!
Having so much family believing in me and supporting me every step of the way just makes this whole adventure even better!
