Unbelievable! This single notification set off a cascade of reactions! and actions!
My first reaction was a very emotional one. I tried to tell my husband the good news via phone call, but I couldn’t even speak. This is such a big deal to me. I have been trying to get into this marathon for 4 years! I have tried qualifying which ended in injury, and all the medical “advice” and diagnosis about the injury has been so confusing that I just didn’t know what to do. So, aside from yoga a couple of times a week and occasional walks with the dogs, I haven’t been doing much of anything. I simply have lost my motivation. And here I am, sitting in front of a computer screen that is telling me I have been accepted into the NYC Marathon! This news has given me the motivation to get moving! So right away I had so much fun:
* Notifying Family and Friends
* Making Hotel Reservations
* Obtaining Airline Tickets
* Buying Pre-race Pasta Tickets
* Ordering training for NYC Marathon Gear
* Developing A Training Plan
* Making a List of all the things I still need to do
* And finally, activating my running Blog
And the not so fun part is figuring out how I can run with an injury and who I can trust to help get me on the right path (more on that in another post). But I am not going to let that get me down.
Let the training begin! Being that I am not in exactly running shape, and I am battling an injury I will start my training today with walking. No high expectations or time goals. My only goal is to finish the New York City Marathon.
My first day out was a very icy one!
And my second goal today is to activate my blog. I have had this blog site for over a year but I haven’t quite perfected it yet. I will work on that along the way as well.
Wish me luck on both!
