Running in the Eagle River area can be very hilly, especially where I live. So, as planned (see post), I took some of my runs to Anchorage for flatter trails and to decrease or at least balance the runs with fewer hills. Anchorage had a massive wind storm on Friday, but I didn’t give it that much thought when I went in for a “long run” on Saturday. I should have.

There were multiple snowdrifts along the trail, which was too bad because otherwise, the trail was in excellent running condition for this time of year. I thought it would improve along the route, but it didn’t.

I felt like I was running a long run steeplechase using snowdrifts. And the snow was soft, making it even harder to run through. I was so glad to hit that 3-mile turnaround point. Running the hills in Eagle River would have been much easier. That was the first time I had seen snowdrifts on this trail. Crazy!

But, It was a beautiful day, and temperatures were close to 30!

Those warmer temps this past week, along with easier runs (fewer hills), better nutrition and hydration (still needs work), and rest, made for a better week of running! Per the graph below, I am back in the green. Last week I was mainly in a non-productive status (orange), which felt like it.

Weekly Runs and Workouts
- Sunday Rest day
- Monday 3 mile run easy
- Tuesday Strength Training
- Wednesday 2 mile run easy
- Thursday 3 mile run easy
- Friday. Strength Training
- Saturday 6 mile long run
I always do a warm-up routine, foam rolling, and walking before every run. And so far, no Achilles pain; although I continue to have knee pain, it has greatly diminished. I am just happy to be running!
