It’s weird how a 10 mile run can sometimes seem like it is over before you know it and a 4 miler seems like it is never going to end! I ran a 4 miler after work onFriday (I work 12 hour shifts and am up at 5 am!) and it just felt like I was out there forever. I think that most runners probably prepare more for the longer runs and not so much for the shorter ones so that could be the reason that they could seem a little harder than the longer runs.
This week’s long run was 12 miles and went really well. Part of the mental preparation is just knowing that I am going to be out running consistently for at least 2 hours. I actually plan for that in my day and it does help things to go a little smoother. I also plan meals that I think will give me the energy and calories to complete a long run. I did, however, forget my gels again this week, but took plenty of water. I started out really slow and easy and finished a little faster.
At about 4.5 miles into the long run, I came around a corner and was face to face with a moose. Interesting enough, one of the first things I did was stop my Garmin???? ?And of course, I somewhat simultaneously started backing up. This moose was right in the middle of the trail! Fortunately, he wasn’t all that interested in me; just wanted to eat.
My training for this week didn’t go anywhere near as scheduled. I just had too much going on, but I did get all of my miles in. So, I’ll just post what I actually ran this week:
- Monday – off
- Tuesday – 5 miles 43:44 (8:44)
- Wednesday – 4 miles 38:23 (9:20)
- Thursday – off
- Friday – 4 miles AYF Easy pace
- Saturday – 12 miles 1:52:30 (9:22)
- Sunday – off
Total miles this week = 25.1
I am having a hard time finding the time to do strength training. I am having a little tenderness in my left piriformis muscle and my right ITB/knee. Neither kept me from finishing my runs this week, but I am worried that if I don’t start some strengthening exercises that these problems could get worse. I continue with the stretching and icing almost every night, though.
Another thing that is hard for me is eating a healthy diet. I think Scott and I eat well for the most part, but there is definitely room for improvement. I went to the grocery store recently with a list and a plan for a nice healthy dinner. This wasn’t on my list, but I was so tempted!
Instead, I made a really good Mango Salsa Salmon over rice with a salad.
The rest of the week has been pretty uneventful. I did get to spend a couple of days with the grandkids (no pics ?). They are the very best kids. ❤️Love them❤️ I am always so sad when they leave. If I didn’t have anything to do, I would be happy to just hang out with them all the time!!!
Moving on to week 6 of marathon training! I really can’t believe how quickly these weeks are coming and going. I am excited about this week’s schedule because speed work-outs are part of it. We shall see how it goes!
Happy Running!
