NYC Marathon…..

Eagle River Nature Center Trails in Alaska Weird to not have any snow!!!

After taking a couple of months off to give my heel more of a chance to improve, I decided to get back to running on this New Year’s Day. Its been kind of interesting taking the time off. Some days my heel appears to be better and some days it seems much worse!

My tentative plan is to start Hal Higdon’s 12 week Spring Training Program on 4/10/2016 followed by his Novice 1 Marathon Training program beginning 7/3/2016. That leaves me with a little over 3 months to get in shape to begin these programs. To get there, I will begin with a run/walk program to ease back into and work up to actual marathon training.

Today I walked/ran 3.7 miles and ran 30-60 seconds out of every 5 minutes. I really want to start back slow to prevent injury. I have been doing some walking which doesn’t seem to affect my heel too much. I stretched and iced afterwards which will be my routine after running every day now. Previously, I wasn’t sure if the stretching would make my injury worse, but I have been assured by my Chiropractor, Dr. Engelbrecht (he’s awesome) that I need to be stretching after running.

I WILL be running the NYC Marathon this year, and just in case something happens, I will be wearing this tee so if anyone sees me lying on the marathon course, just follow the instructions, please…. 🙂

She also made this super neat calendar to keep me on track during my training.

Speaking of Christmas, I am really sad that the holidays are over. I want to drag them out just a bit longer. I don’t even want to take down my tree! And today, I saw this in the store….already!

Oh well, just like the marathon will be here before we know it, Christmas will follow very shortly afterwards! Feeling stressed already..ha ha!

It’s been hard to get anything done or even thin It’s been hard to get anything done or even think about running with all that is happening in the world🥲 but I managed to get down my icy driveway to run on the dry roads. Super windy!!! I had a really hard time on the hills against that wind. But I got it done and I increased my run/walk to a 4:1 ratio x 7 so I am happy about that. #runnersofalaska #runalaska #runwalkrun #runnersover60 #ilovetorun #buildingarunningbase #windyalaska #crazywinterweather

But, despite that look what she did! She is so talented and creative. She remembered Mom as someone who was always stylish. She took pride in her appearance. A specific memory inspired Sonja to make these beautiful clay earrings! How special is that? Running with knee OA is interesting. Take yesterd Running with knee OA is interesting. Take yesterday, my knees were bothering me a little, to the point that I wasn’t sure if I should run. But, I thought… give it a try, see how it goes. I can always just walk. And it went great! I even added an extra run/walk cycle to the program. And today I have absolutely no knee pain. I’m even running up and down stairs (when I need to go up them) trying to create some pain (I know sicko) but nothing??? Go figure! Nothing has changed.
