NYC Marathon: Baggage and Transportation Options

April 18, 2015 Leave a Comment

The excitement of getting into the New York City Marathon wanes a bit after a couple of weeks and although my training remains a priority, everyday life responsibilities as well as other priorities puts the Marathon a little on the backburner. Then, the excitement along with a dose of anxiety returns with the email […]

Transition From Walking/Running to Running

April 13, 2015 Leave a Comment

I decided to run some errands before my run hoping that it would stop snowing and clear up a bit and walah! I have transitioned from the return to running program to Hal Higdon’s spring training schedule. This week’s training was as follows: Monday     1.5 mile run Tuesday      Off Wednesday 3 […]

Running Update and Other Fun Stuff

April 2, 2015 Leave a Comment

I was able to run again yesterday (April Fool’s Day) sticking to running 3 minutes out of every 5 X 6 after a warm-up. My heel did feel a little tender at times but not painful during the run. It was not the best day out as far as weather goes; very cloudy, grey, cool, […]

Running with Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy

March 31, 2015 1 Comment

A quick update on running with my Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy (IAT).  As mentioned in previous posts, I was doing the eccentric heel drops, yoga, and foam rolling as well as a returning to running (run/walk) program. I had advanced in the running program to the stage of running 3 minutes/walking 5 minutes. I wasn’t having […]

The Importance of Cadence

March 23, 2015 2 Comments

While downloading my latest results from my Garmin 620, I noticed that it gave cadence data. I have never really thought about a running cadence before, I only worried about my pace per mile. But I do know that I have a pretty long stride when I run which apparently is not a good […]

My Marathon Training Plan

March 20, 2015 Leave a Comment

Ready. Set. Go

I have talked a little about my injury and training, but I haven’t exactly mentioned my training plan. Ideally, I would want to give this injury another year and possibly run a couple of shorter races vs. a marathon right now. But, it isn’t every day that you get a spot in the New York […]

Slow and Easy

March 16, 2015 Leave a Comment

I have really gotten used to these warmer Alaskan temperatures, and I have become a total wimp when it gets a little chilly out.  Today I cringed at the thought of running (okay mostly walking but I still like to refer to my training as running) out in -2 degree weather.  I absolutely hate running […]

Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy

March 13, 2015 Leave a Comment

Dealing with an injury and not being able to run can be very frustrating. What can be even more frustrating is being misdiagnosed and prescribed a treatment that only makes the condition worse. I was diagnosed with Achilles Tendonitis even though on examination and assessment by medical professionals, my mid-portion Achilles was not tender or […]

What Went Wrong

March 9, 2015 Leave a Comment

There are many factors to consider when runners get injured, but my   running journal revealed the painful truth of the major contributing factors of my running injury. This revelation is almost as painful as the injury itself. The training plan was reasonable for someone who had not been running consistently for several months. It […]

I’m In!

March 7, 2015 2 Comments

Unbelievable! This single notification set off a cascade of reactions! and actions! My first reaction was a very emotional one. I tried to tell my husband the good news via phone call, but I couldn’t even speak. This is such a big deal to me.  I have been trying to get into this marathon for 4 years! […]

But, despite that look what she did! She is so talented and creative. She remembered Mom as someone who was always stylish. She took pride in her appearance. A specific memory inspired Sonja to make these beautiful clay earrings! How special is that?
