This week didn’t exactly go as I had hoped. My plan was to continue running easy miles towards building a base before starting Hal Higdon’s 12 week spring training program. That program would lead right into the start of marathon training.
But….icy road conditions pretty much kept me from running most of the week. Some days the roads were so bad, we couldn’t even drive on them without chains! It was ridiculous.
Even if the roads got sanded, it was a challenge getting down our own driveway. Scott would sand the driveway but then it got warmer during the day which of course melted some of the ice. Then, it would freeze over all of his hard work as it got colder at night.
I actually did go down to the main road twice early in the week to try and run, but the roads were simply too icy. Being so frustrated that I couldn’t run, I called DOT and complained about how icy and treacherous the roads were. Of course, I was mainly thinking about how I was going to get to work…..getting DOT out here had nothing to do with running…:)
This isn’t a picture of the main road, it is still a little icier, but I can at least get to the main road now.
Scott decided to help me out with those problems that were preventing me from running. He bought me microspikes to get down the driveway and nanospikes for runnng!! Both were so awesome. I have been wearing grippers for running but the nanospikes are so much better.
Even though it was super cold on the days that I could actually run, I still went. It was 16 degrees one day and 12 on the other. I was so happy to be running. I would have smiled in the photo but my face was frozen 🙂
Temperatures are suppose to drop over the next week, so I don’t expect the roads to be a problem. The cold might be though…we are suppose to get below zero on some days. I am just going to take each day as it comes and do the best that I can. If I have to go to the gym and run on a treadmill so be it. At least I can get there now. I can’t exactly train for a BQ if I am not able to run. My goal!
Dreaming of Boston….
With such a busy and kind of isolating week, I didn’t get to spend much time with the grandkids, but I did get them for one night. We are just hanging out….Tylor checking out u-tube and Maddy being a mermaid. I just love having them around.
Spring training starts this week….wish me luck on the roads!
Happy Running!
