I really miss those days when I could just go out and run. Yes, those days of my youth. I could run in any kind of running shoe and never get injured. Nothing hurt. Now, with every pair of shoes I buy, I need to know the return policy because it is likely they will get returned or exchanged. It’s frustrating! Last year I tried so many shoes that I was beginning to think that Skinny Raven Sports was going to blacklist me! Ha! A few got returned and others got handed down to my daughter (I will eventually turn her into a runner too!).
And my recent purchase of the Asics Gel Kayano 22 was no exception. I really liked them and thought this was the shoe for me. Finally! And on my shorter distances, they were fine. But on the longer runs, my toes felt all scrunched up and the shoes just felt tight. I did notice this problem before, but the run was over before it really bothered me. The other thing that I noticed was pain in my right knee. I would have to adjust my form during the run for the pain to go away. So I traded them in. I was hoping for the same shoe only wider which I tried, but they too did not fit right. So, the very will informed running shoe guru at Skinny Ravens Sports brought out the Asics GT-2000 4 for me to try. I wasn’t that excited about the color but it fit well, and it was pretty comfortable. When I tried it on their treadmill, nothing hurt! I did try a few other shoes before I decided on this one. Fingers crossed!
The first run out was good but instead of my right knee aching, my left knee started to hurt. Fortunately, that resolved fairly quickly and I didn’t have any other problems on my short 4 mile run that day.
It was a beautiful day! I decided to run in Anchorage on the Tony Knowles Coastal trail. People were actually out ice skating on the Westchester Lagoon. Pretty Awesome!
The following day I ran another easy three miles and everything still seemed okay. I was scheduled to run the Shamrock Shuffle 5k on Saturday, and I was a little nervous about wearing a new pair of running shoes in a race! Actually, I was nervous about running a race at all 🙂 But I did it and it went great! See my next post for details! All in all, I am feeling pretty good about these shoes. But, I feel like I need to run about 30 to 40 miles before I have a really good feel for them. Wish me luck!!
